Has Anyone Seen My Internet?


I love working at home. I save time and gas and get more done. Luckily, I have the right tools to ensure my productivity.

Unfortunately my productivity does have a single vulnerability. A single Comcast connection to the Internet.

My Comcast link is pretty reliable. So reliable, that when it failed yesterday, my initial assumption was it must be other services that were experiencing outages.

The impact of this outage was surprisingly frustrating to me, and I think I need to apply the same type of designs organization’s apply to their critical services – redundancy at home.

    Absolutely. As a professional home office worker for many years I rely on both DSL and cable modem. Well worth the investment.

    If you don’t have POTS lines you might consider a non-IP backup for your phones. For example, a cellular gateway.

    If your run Asterisk or Freeswitch you could use these neat new, low cost cards that fit on a TDM400p.
